Collegiate Challenge 2024

Clay County Habitat for Humanity welcomed students from the Illinois Institute of Technology for this year’s Collegiate Challenge. These amazing students volunteered their time at two construction sites located in Green Cove Springs. Activities at the construction sites included pressure washing, interior painting, installing siding and staining a fence. The students worked alongside the Core Construction Volunteers and had the opportunity to meet members of the Clay County Habitat Board of Directors, Family Selection and Family Support Committees along with partner families. These interactions taught them the importance of affordable housing and Clay County Habitat’s strategy to address this critical issue in our area. The community helped support this event. Meals for the students were provided by Publix Super Market, Waste Not Want Not and Habitat Family Selection and Family Support Committees.

For more than 30 years, Habitat for Humanity has provided college students alternative school break volunteer opportunities. Since this program began in the late ’80s, more than 260,000 individuals have committed to building safe and affordable homes across the United States through the Collegiate Challenge volunteer event.
